New!Pear Moissanite

Product Description

Choose between the pear series MPC Roseco certified white moissanite, which includes an IGI grading certificate, or the always popular series MOP Charles & Colvard® Forever One™ moissanite (not certified). Pear moissanite is available in sizes 5.0mm × 3.0mm to 10.0mm × 7.0mm.

Both versions are D-E-F colorless and include a limited lifetime warranty that guarantees the stone will always maintain its color and clarity (excludes chipping and breakage).

Important! Moissanite must be returned within 10 days to receive full credit. Roseco does not offer memos.

Note: Only certain sizes of moissanite are available with an IGI grading certificate.

In 1893, French scientist Henri Moissan discovered moissanite near a meteor crater in Arizona. Made of silicon carbide, moissanite is the most brilliant among the rarest natural gemstones. In the late 1990's, gem scientists perfected the process of producing moissanite in a lab. Today lab-grown moissanite is indistinguishable from naturally-occurring moissanite.

Diamond is the hardest substance known to man, but moissanite is not far behind. On the Mohs gemstone hardness scale of 1 (softest) through 10 (hardest), diamond sets the bar at 10. Moissanite's hardness ranks fro 9.25 to 9.5, surpassing both sapphires and rubies. Its toughness is rated as excellent.

Diamond is also very brilliant, but on the Brilliance Refraction Index (RI), moissanite ranks much higher. Diamond has an RI of 2.42 and a fire dispersion of .044. Moissanite has an RI of 2.69 and a fire dispersion of .104 ... a much higher brilliance!

Roseco's lab-grown moissanite includes a limited lifetime warranty that guarantees the stone will always maintain its color and brilliance. Although moissanite is an exceptionally hard stone, the warranty excludes chipping or breakage. Each Roseco Certified White Moissanite comes with a certificate from the International Gemological Institute that assures your customer of its authenticity in quality.

While moissanite is extremely hard, durable, and resistant to scratching, abrasion and chipping, it, like all other gemstones, is not indestructible. To avoid breaking points or chipping the girdle, special care must be taken to avoid unnecessary pressure. Drill small indentations on any prong that will hold a point to transfer pressure from the point to the sides. For all other prongs, be sure the seats are properly cut. Then setting a moissanite should pose no problem. Also, use only rubber wheels around the prongs. Silicon carbide or diamond abrasives will scratch moissanite. Emery paper and buff sticks are best suited for trimming prongs.

Do not wear moissanite jewelry when doing rough work to avoid sharp blows. Moissanite can be safely cleaned with most over-the-counter, non-acid based jewelry cleaners or in an ultrasonic cleaner.
